GROUND WATER
BRIEF DESCRIPTION ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
Ground Water Department was formerly established its camp/District office in Eluru in the year 1976 in West Godavari district headed by Assistant Director supported by technical officers and ministerial staff to deal with field work and office administration respectively.
The department is multi disciplinary organization i.e., Hydrogeology, Geophysicist, Hydrology & drilling of bore wells etc., and coordinates with agencies related to Ground water development. Later on the department enhances from ground water development to management for scientific planning and systematic development. The district office was upgraded as Deputy Director’s office in the year 1996. The name of the department has been changed to Ground Water & Water Audit Department on 2nd August, 2016 by the ministry of Water Resources and Management.
SCHEMES/ ACTIVITIES
Main schemes are:
- National Hydrology Project under World Bank funding.
- APIIATP Project.
- SCSP & TSP
Main Activities are:
- Periodic estimations on Ground Water resources of the District on watershed approaches and according clearances to minor irrigation schemes.
- Detailed investigations for delineation of potential zones and selections of wells to be implemended by departmental agencies and individual investigations for identification feasible areas and suitable sites for AR & rain water harvesting structures.
- Monitioring of Ground water level and water quality through a network of piezometers.
- Drilling of exploratory cum- production of bore wells/Tube wells to study surface configuration of aquifier and assess aquifer parameters
TARGETS & ACHIEVEMENTS FOR 2018-19
During the financial year 2018-19, the department has 777 achieved under WALTA programme against the targetof 150 sites. Under SCSP scheme, 41 sites investigated against the target 150, Under TSP, 31 sites are investigated against the target of 100sites.
Drilling programme under SCSP, there is no progress. Under TSP, 4 bore wells are drilled against 15 sites.
