ANIMAL HUSBANDRY

The West Godavari District is having four Revenue Divisions Eluru, Kovvuru, Narasapuram and Jangareddygudem.

The Animal Husbandry Department is divided into four administrative Divisions of Eluru, Bhimavaram, Pentapadu and Nidadavole headed by Deputy Directors (A.H).  The office of the Joint Director (AH), Eluru is located in the premises of the Veterinary Hospital,  Eluru  behind Alluri Seetha Ramaraju Stadium.

 

Eluru Division is having 10 Mandals(Pedapadu, Eluru, Denduluru, Bhimadole, D.Tiirumala, K.Kota, T.Narasapuram, Chintalapudi, Lingapalem ,Pedavegi,)

Bhimavaram Division is having 12 Mandals(Mogalturu, Narasapuram, Elamanchili, Poduru, Achanta, Palacole, Veeravasaram, Plakoderu, Undi, Kalla, Akiveedu, Bhimavaram)

Pentapadu Division is having 13 Mandals,(Tanuku, Iragavaram, Undrajavaram, Attili, Penumantra, Penugonda, Peravali, T.P.Gudem, Ganapavaram, Nidamarru, Nalajerla, Unguturu, Pentapadu)

Nidadavole Division is having 13 Mandals.(Chagallu, Devarapalli, J.R.Gudem, Kovvuru, Tallapudi, Nidadavolu, Koyyalagudem, Gopalapuram, Jeelugumilli, Polavaram, Buttaigudem,Velairpadu,Kukkunuru)

State Institute of Animal Health (SIAH) is located at Tanuku. This is a referral hospital for the District having X Ray facility and other latest diagnostic techniques. Apart from this, this institute will act as training centre for conducting trainings on skill updating and refresher training to the field staff of the District for effective service delivery in the field.

Centralized Semen Collection Centre(CSCC) is functioning at Tadepalligudem to supply the Frozen Semen for Artificial Insemination to the  field  institutions for up grading breed quality of our local tract.

Pig Breeding Station(PBS) is located in Gopannapalem for Pigs rearing.

Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory(ADDL), is located in the premises of Joint Director (A.H), to evolve Disease Diagnosis of Animals , prevention  and prophylaxis of Diseases by protective vaccination.

 

The District Livestock Census( as per 18th Quinquennial  Census-2012 ) is as follows in this District.

The Breedable Population of the District is as follows:

  3. Cross Bred Cows                     –            23,783
  4. Graded Murrah Buffaloes     –         2,11,463

Departmental Activities

1).Double Digit Growth:

West Godavari has a very large population of livestock. It is one of the highest producers of milk in the state. About 70% of the milch animals are of graded murrah and medium yielding variety. Apart from the good animal management practices, the district role of various innovative activities implemented in the District in the able guidance of District Collector , a real hike in milk production to an extent of 15% growth attributed to state GDP. 4) Preparation of Disease calendar for the year 2019-20:

A disease calendar is prepared with common & communicable diseases and by fore casting the onset of the diseases. So that the animals will be protected in advance with suitable vaccinations and timely deworming as per the schedule prepared in advance.

5) Community Resource Persons (CRP) for Livestock:

Community Resource Persons (CRP) for Livestock is extension service provider cum input supplier of all Animal Husbandry department schemes. A total of 392 CRP-LS are working in the district to serve farmers.

6) Ongoing schemes:

  1. i) 20th Quinquinnial Livestock Census: The Enumeration and finalization of Livestock was completed upto 98% in West

Godavari District.

  1.  ii) Livestock compensation scheme: Milch cattle of all categories of farmers including Small Farmers/ Marginal Farmers and

Agricultural Labourers in addition to the self Help Group(SHG) women farmers will be covered under this scheme. The

enrollment of farmers is under progress.
