Overview

An official Census 2011 detail of West Godavari, a district of Andhra Pradesh has been released by Directorate of Census Operations in Andhra Pradesh. Enumeration of key persons was also done by census officials in West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh.

Population

In 2011, West Godavari had population of 3,936,966 of which male and female were 1,964,918 and 1,972,048 respectively. In 2001 census, West Godavari had a population of 3,803,517 of which males were 1,910,038 and remaining 1,893,479 were females. West Godavari District population constituted 4.65 percent of total Maharashtra population. In 2001 census, this figure for West Godavari District was at 4.99 percent of Maharashtra population.

Population Growth Rate

There was change of 3.51 percent in the population compared to population as per 2001. In the previous census of India 2001, West Godavari District recorded increase of 8.13 percent to its population compared to 1991.

Density of Population

The initial provisional data released by census India 2011, shows that density of West Godavari district for 2011 is 509 people per sq. km. In 2001, West Godavari district density was at 491 people per sq. km. West Godavari district administers 7,742 square kilometers of areas.

Literacy Rate

Average literacy rate of West Godavari in 2011 were 74.63 compared to 73.53 of 2001. If things are looked out at gender wise, male and female literacy were 77.92 and 71.36 respectively. For 2001 census, same figures stood at 78.05 and 68.99 in West Godavari District. Total literate in West Godavari District were 2,652,389 of which male and female were 1,379,223 and 1,273,166 respectively. In 2001, West Godavari District had 2,458,822 in its district.

Sex Ratio


With regards to Sex Ratio in West Godavari, it stood at 1004 per 1000 male compared to 2001 census figure of 991. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per latest reports of Census 2011 Directorate. In 2011 census, child sex ratio is 964 girls per 1000 boys compared to figure of 970 girls per 1000 boys of 2001 census data.

Child Population


In census enumeration, data regarding child under 0-6 age were also collected for all districts including West Godavari. There were total 382,887 children under age of 0-6 against 459,604 of 2001 census. Of total 382,887 male and female were 194,960 and 187,927 respectively. Child Sex Ratio as per census 2011 was 964 compared to 970 of census 2001. In 2011, Children under 0-6 formed 9.73 percent of West Godavari District compared to 12.08 percent of 2001. There was net change of -2.35 percent in this compared to previous census of India.

Urban Population

Out of the total West Godavari population for 2011 census, 20.54 percent lives in urban regions of district. In total 808,777 people lives in urban areas of which males are 397,905 and females are 410,872. Sex Ratio in urban region of West Godavari district is 1033 as per 2011 census data. Similarly child sex ratio in West Godavari district was 960 in 2011 census. Child population (0-6) in urban region was 73,251 of which males and females were 37,380 and 35,871. This child population figure of West Godavari district is 9.39 % of total urban population. Average literacy rate in West Godavari district as per census 2011 is 83.85 % of which males and females are 87.52 % and 80.32 % literates respectively. In actual number 616,759 people are literate in urban region of which males and females are 315,548 and 301,211 respectively.

As per 2011 census, 79.46 % population of West Godavari districts lives in rural areas of villages.
